Browning Spec Ops Elite Wildlife Camera – HP5 Information
Browning Spec Ops Elite HP5 Wildlife Camera
The Browning Spec Ops Elite HP5 wildlife trail camera is the improved and upgraded version of the massively successful Browning Spec Ops Edge camera trap. It's widely recognised as having the best day & night video recording quality and with the fastest trigger speed and recovery time available from any trail camera currently on the market today, certainly within this price bracket. So if you're looking to record & monitor wildlife in your garden or local woodland area or you're looking for a portable security camera with fantastic HD video quality day & night, then you cannot go wrong with the Browning Spec Ops Elite HP5 trail camera.
Browning wildlife camera with HD video recording
The Spec Ops Elite HP5 trail camera can be set to record video at full HD quality 1920 x 1080 and at 30fps or 60fps, far surpassing the frame rate (fps) rating of most other trail cameras on the market.
There are two choices for video resolution – ‘Ultra’ and ‘High’. Ultra is uncompressed 1080p HD video at 60 frames per second. The quality is amazing but the file sizes are very large – over 400MB per video. Choosing ‘High’ resolution means almost the same video quality but at 30 frames per second with much more manageable file sizes!
You can set the wildlife camera to record a video from anything between 5 seconds and 2 minutes in length. You can also activate the ‘Smart IR Video’ feature - this means that the camera will continue recording video footage for up to 5 minutes during the daytime and up to 20 seconds at night as long as the wildlife/people continue to move in front of the camera.
The spec ops elite willdife camera can record video or capture high quality images
The Browning Spec Ops Elite can also be set to take still images too instead of video, which is often preferable in many wildlife survey projects as the battery life and the space on your SD card will last much, much longer. This allows the trail camera to be left in the field for much longer periods before checking. In photo "trail camera" mode, you can select how many images you want the camera to take per trigger. Your options are "Multi-Shot", which takes up to 8 images at around 2 second intervals, or "Rapid Fire", which can take up to 8 images at about 0.2 seconds apart.
The Spec Ops Elite HP5 has a few improved/additional features over the previous HP4 model such as:
Slightly improved battery life (lower power consumption), Increased infrared power, increased image resolution from 20MP to 24MP and an increased angle of view from 40 degrees to approximately 54 degrees.
Audio Recording:
Alongside the video the camera will record fantastic clear audio too.
Built in LCD Screen:
The built in 2" screen allows you to set up the camera and/or playback recordings. It's a forward facing screen so you can see exactly what you have the camera aiming at, this makes positioning nice and easy.
Trigger Speed & Recovery Time:
The Browning Spec Ops Elite has a 0.2 trigger speed for photos and 0.3 for video. It also boasts a super fast 0.6 second recovery time between recordings. This quick recovery time means that, for the video editors out there, you can stitch together back to back recordings almost seamlessly.
Adjustable Detection Range & Adjustable Infrared:
This Browning Recon Force Elite HP5 trail camera has a detection / sensor range of between 55 and 80 feet (adjustable). It also has 3 different infrared settings. These two features allow you to obtain the best possible recording results.
What's the difference between the Browning Spec Ops Elite HP5 and the Browning Recon Force Elite HP5?
The only difference is the infrared type used in the cameras. The Spec Ops Elite HP5 use no glow infrared so it is completely covert and ideal in locations whereby theft of the trail camera could be an issue.
The infrared on the Browning Recon Force Elite HP5 wildlife camera is low glow.
Please note the low glow infrared of the Recon Force Elite HP5 trail camera offers slightly increased brightness & night vision range over the no glow infrared of the Spec Ops Edge, as low glow infrared is a little bit more powerful than no glow.
What is the lens angle of view for the Spec Ops Elite HP5 trail camera?
The Browning Elite cameras have a lens angle of view of approximately 50 degrees.
Can I increase the battery life of my Browning camera?
Yes, you can effectively double the battery life and running time of your Spec Ops Elite by coupling it with the Browning External Power Pack.
What else do I need?
You will need batteries (8 x AA) and we only recommend using either Energizer Ultimate Lithium for disposables or Panasonic Eneloop Pro 2500mA for rechargeables. These are tried and tested with the Elite HP5 and will offer the best performance for the camera. Many other types and brands of battery will give the camera problems and you a headache! The Panasonic rechargeables mentioned above will save you money in the long run as they can be used over and over again, better for the environment too.
You will also need an SD card and the Browning Spec Ops Elite HP5 can support up to 512G SDXC cards, so a massive amount of storage space! Having said that the camera will work fine with 32G, 64G, 128G etc and that's usually more than enough space for most users.
Capture Timer:
The Browning Elite trail cameras have the Capture Timer feature, allowing you to specify between which hours of the day you would like the camera to record. You can of course turn this feature off and just leave the camera to do it's thing 24 hours a day.
